Thank You Amelia

amelia-earhart-costumeHalloween’s just over, and I just wanted to take a moment to say Happy Halloween, Happy Fall, don’t forget to set your clocks back this weekend (which is also a great time to do some yearly car maintenance), and also…I love Amelia Earhart.

I took the opportunity of dressing up today to “be” Amelia Earhart. I’ve read a number of her biographies these past couple of years, and she’s an inspiration. While her disappearance may be the first thing that comes to mind – did you know she broke numerous aviation records (some not specifically for a woman, but first ever), dabbled in her own fashion lines for the active gal, wrote a column in Cosmopolitan, and was involved in higher education? She’s pretty kick-ass.

As I donned my vintage ladies coveralls, leather bomber jacket, scarf, flight goggles and helmet today – it was an image I was both comfortable in and inspired by. Glad I was receiving thumbs up for who I represented today, and not because I was some sexy-fill-in-the-blank character. I’m glad for the many women who have walked before me and demonstrated a path that’s completely unique, completely them.

Happy Trails,
Kristin

You’re pretty kick-ass yourself, Grease Girl! Maybe someday young ladies will be dressing up as you! šŸ™‚
